Stephanie ‘Dogfoot’ Chan lives in Singapore and has been writing poetry ever since her first gerbil died when she was 11. She has been performing since 2008, the summer she stumbled into her first poetry slam in Cafe deux Soleil, Vancouver.

In 2010, Stephanie won the Singapore National Poetry Slam Championships and represented Singapore in the 2nd Indian Ocean Slam Championships on Reunion Island.

In 2012, shortly after graduating with a law degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, she won the UK Farrago Slam Championships and represented the UK in the European Slam Championships in Antwerp, coming in 2nd runner up. She represented the UK in the Poetry Slam World Cup in Paris in June 2013.

Whilst living in London, Stephanie helped to organize and host the Hammer and Tongue Slam Hackney and co-founded a poetry open mic night called Forget What You Heard (About Spoken Word). She performed widely around the UK, featuring at poetry nights, conferences and at festivals such as the Glastonbury Festival. She wrote and performed a solo spoken word show called Foreigner Go Home (With Me!) at the Edinburgh Free Fringe Festival in 2012 and 2013.

In 2013, Stephanie returned to Singapore and became passionate about helping to build the spoken word scene in the country. She helped to co-run a poetry night called SPEAK at the Home Club (later, Canvas Creative Space), which ran from 2012 to 2016. She also joined the feminist spoken word troupe Sekaliwags, which created and performed shows at the Lit Up festival and the Singapore Writers Festival, and help to start and run Ministry of Noise, a spoken word workshop group which went on to create experimental and interactive spoken word plays.

Currently, Stephanie curates a monthly poetry night which she founded in August 2017 called Spoke & Bird features both local and international poets and artists, as well as an open mic. It She also co-organises the Singapore Story Slam and served as an editor of the SingPoWriMo Anthology (2017). She also performs stand up comedy and runs a stand up comedy night for women and queer people called Siao Char Bors.

She has been on the IndigNation organising committee and an organiser of ContraDiction since 2014.
