Go to Part 2: http://youtu.be/uS913GAqohk The first lecture of IndigNation, Singapore's inaugural gay pride month was conducted by Dr. Tan Chong Kee in Mandarin at 7:30pm on Tuesday, 2 August 2005 at Xposé Bar & Restaurant, 208 South Bridge Road. It was entitled "Same-Sex Love In Classical Chinese Literature". Its historical significance is that it was the first time a government-approved public lecture on homosexuality had been held in Singapore after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong declared in August 2004 that indoor talks would no longer require a police permit. Dr. Tan, who had conducted extensive research into Chinese civilisation, challenged the notion that same-sex love was contrary to Asian culture. He traced and explored various ancient classical Chinese texts on same-sex love to demonstrate that same-sex love had been an integral part and parcel of Asian life.
